Mikhail is currently pursuing a PhD degree in Japanese at the University of Colorado Boulder. He is particularly interested in early modern Japanese historiography, Sino-Japanese literature, and the reception of continental culture in Edo-period Japan. Before joining CU, Mikhail taught East Asian history and literary Chinese to undergraduate students and was employed at Mitsui Bussan, a Japanese general trading company, as well as a few think tanks in Washington D.C. He holds an MA in Asian Studies from Georgetown University and a BA in Regional Studies from Moscow State Institute of International Relations.
